Set Or Change Password...

Allows you to set or change the password allowing access to the functions on the Educator menu.  If both edit boxes are left empty, the program will not prompt for a password when invoking selections from the Educator menu.  If the Require Password To Access Options is checked, the program will require the same password (if one is set) before allowing you to access the Options settings.

Access FlashcardExchange Content...

Opens a dialog that allows browsing and downloading study files from FlashcardExchange, the world's largest library of study files.  Browsing and downloading requires an active Internet connection, but once downloaded, you can use, edit and save the file locally, without need of an Internet connection.  See FlashcardExchange for more detail on this topic.

Import Content...

Appends or overwrites additional Q&A pairs to the currently open source file from a properly-formatted text file or from the Windows clipboard.  See Importing Content for more detail on this topic.

Export Content...

Exports Q&A pairs from the currently open source file to a selection of ANSI-text file formats as well as .wav and .mp3 audio formats.  Output Q&A pairs can be screened by setting the export filter.  See Exporting Content for more detail on this topic.

Create Portable Version On USB Drive...

Note: This feature is only available when the program is registered.

Allows you to create a portable version of WinFlash Educator on a USB-connected drive (generally this would be a 'thumb' drive, but any drive that connects to the computer via USB will work).  This capability can be really useful for tutors - just take your USB stick containing lessons and program to your student's machine and let them practice without them needing to install a copy of WinFlash on their machine.

Of course it's also useful for those who are into the 'USB stick as computer' paradigm - just carry this around in your pocket and plug it into any of the public access machines that are available. In developing this feature I ran across a VERY useful, free, tool that organizes applications installed on a USB drive and provides a nice interface for them:

http://portableapps.com/

If you decide to try this out, you can integrate the WinFlash portable version into the Portable Apps structure on your thumb drive by moving the directory WinFlashEducatorPortable from the top level of the drive into the PortableApps directory. WinFlash will then display as one of the applications in the Portable Apps launcher.

Hide (or Show) Glossary Buttons In Editor & F.I.B. Panel

Clicking on this item toggles the setting that determines whether the Glossary Buttons are shown when using the editor and Fill-In-The-Blank questions.  If you decide not to use these buttons, hiding them reclaims additional screen space for the other elements in the editor. The default setting is to show the buttons.

Use Normal Paste (or PasteSpecial) Formatting for Glossary Buttons

Clicking on this item toggles the setting that determines whether the Glossary Button insertion operation is performed in the normal Paste mode or the PasteSpecial mode. Normal Paste inserts the string at the cursor location using all the font face, size and effect formatting that was entered when creating the string in the Glossary Editor and PasteSpecial inserts the string at the cursor location, adopting the font face, size and effect formatting that is in place at the cursor location. This is the default operation of the program.

View Test Result (.FLR) File...

Brings up the standard Open dialog allowing you to select a .FLR file to examine.  The resulting dialog displays the results and allows you to print out the file in several formats.

Spell Check Current File...

Invokes the spell checking feature.  Flagged items are highlighted in the appropriate panel of the editor.

Configure Spell Checker...

Opens the Spelling Options dialog allowing customization of the operation of the spell checker.  See Configuring The Spell Checker for more information on this topic.

Download Additional Dictionaries...

Opens your Internet browser and attempts to connect to the Addictive Software website page where additional free dictionaries are available for download.  See Downloading and Installing Additional Dictionaries for more information on this topic.

Check for Duplicate Pairs...

Checks the currently open file for duplicates based on the text portion of the Question.  This is ineffective for files which have no text in the Question or which have every Question text the same.  For most files, however, this is an effective tool.

Duplicate pairs are displayed in table format allowing easy deletion of the extra pair(s)

Be aware that as the file sizes become large the run times for this test increase as the factorial of the number of Q&A pairs.  For large runs a dialog appears allowing the check to be canceled, reporting on duplicates found up to that point.

Create Composite Source File - From Two Source Files...

Brings up the standard Open dialog allowing you to select the Secondary File to be used in creating a new  source file from Q&A pairs contained in two already-existing source files.  The Primary File will be the currently open file and can be an old-style .FLS-format file.  The Secondary File must be a .FLU format file.  See Creating Composite Source Files for more detail on this topic.

Create Composite Source File - From A Single Source File...

Select this item if you simply want to create a new study file from a subset of the pairs in the currently-open file. See Creating Composite Source Files for more detail on this topic.

Delete Current Source File

This selection asks you for confirmation of the selection and, if given, proceeds to delete the currently open file along with any associated .RTF, .FLD, .WAV, MP3, .JPG and .INT files as well as any backup copies of this file that have been previously made.

Backup Current Source File

This selection backs up the current file along with any associated .RTF, .FLD, .WAV, .MP3, .JPG and .INT files (the files that share a common root with the .FLS or .FLU source file) by appending the letters BAK to the root and saving the files to the directory containing the original files.

Compile Study (.FLZ) File...

Opens the Compiled File Options dialog allowing you to set a password for the new .FLZ file if one is desired.  After pressing OK, the compiler will create a .FLZ file with the same root file name as the currently open source file in the same directory as the  currently open source file. See Creating Compiled Files for more detail on this topic.

Important Note: Compiled files CANNOT be renamed - it will cause them to malfunction when WinFlash tries to open them.  Be sure that the root name of the source file you use to compile the .FLZ or .FLT file is what you want the file to be named.  Otherwise you will have to recompile to change the name.

Note: Initial file options are contained within the .FLZ file itself.  On its first opening, WinFlash creates an accompanying .FLD file for the file using these settings.  After that, you can modify these options as desired.

Compile Test (.FLT) File...

Opens the Compiled File Options dialog allowing you to set a password for the new .FLT file if one is desired.  The dialog also allows you to enter the Test Name, Time Limit (if desired), destination directory for the .FLR file that will be produced when the test is taken and an Introductory Message to be shown at the beginning of the test.  After pressing OK, the compiler will create a .FLT file with the same root file name as the currently open source file in the same directory as the  currently open source file.

Produce Printed Test...

Prints out a ready-to-reproduce formatted test for those times where you want to administer an exam via standard methods.
