Print this Topic Return to chapter overview

WinFlash is available in three forms - Basic, Scholar and Educator.  The features below are divided into three categories, reflecting the three program levels.  Click here to view a concise table comparing the features of the three programs.

The following new features are available in all three WinFlash versions:

Unicode!! - The all-time-most-requested feature enhancement is finally here! Now you can use any available Unicode font - Russian, Chinese, mathematical symbols, 'smilies', whatever you wish - and mix them within regular Q & A text!

Font Effects - Another oft-requested capability - now underline, bold, sub and superscripts and much more are available to highlight the contents of your study materials

Improved Help - You're using it now!

New character-inserter in the editor can access all fonts and characters available on your computer

The file and directory handling has been brought in line with the My Documents paradigm. Each separate user account has its own My WinFlash Files directory (below My Documents) as well as its own copy of the Tutorial and Cheers directories and Subject Outline data

The following new features are available in WinFlash Scholar and Educator:

Greatly improved printing capability, including graphics cards without the old 'screenshot' overhead

Display full-text Q&A pairs in the editor's Table View. Vary font size for optimal readability

The following new features are available in WinFlash Educator:

HandyCards and FlashcardExchange files (.hc format) transparently imported and saved as native format .flu files directly from File|Open menu. The old, multi-step process is no longer necessary to use these files

Unicode support for importing FlashcardExchange files and for importing from the Window's clipboard

Full-text support in the Advanced Statistics display

Note: Old source (.fls and .flu) files will work just fine with v10.1  Simply open them with the new program and the new entries for the .FLD file will be automatically created the first time you open the file in v10.1.  However, files created with v10.1 may NOT be compatible when used with older versions.  See Backward Compatibility for detailed information on this topic.
