Main|Options|View

Cheers & Jeers is the lighthearted name given to Scholar and Educator's ability to play a sound file either "cheering" a correct answer or "jeering" an incorrect one.  The programs ship with an initial set of 5 cheers and 5 jeers that are used by default when either Cheers or Jeers is enabled.  Cheers & Jeers controls are contained in Options|View.

Customizing Cheers & Jeers

Using the default set of Cheers and Jeers doesn't really address the full fun potential of this feature.  Given the HUGE assortment of sound effect files available on the Internet and the ease with which you can record your own using Windows' Sound Recorder applet (Start|Programs|Accessories|Entertainment|Sound Recorder) there's really no reason not to personalize the Cheers and Jeers on your system.  Here's how:

When Cheers and/or Jeers is enabled, the program creates a pool of files to use by searching for Cheers and Jeers files in either the directory containing the .FLU or .FLZ file being used or the directory specified as the Cheers And Jeers Directory in Options|Directories.  If neither of these directories contains any C's or J's then the program will use its own files that are installed in the ..\Cheers subdirectory of the main application directory.  Thus, the first step in setting up your own C's and J's is to determine which directory to put them in.

Cheers and Jeers can be sound files of any format that is playable as a regular WinFlash sound file.

After collecting your Cheers and Jeers files, you'll need to rename them in order for the program to be able to find and use them.  Remember NOT to change the file's extension - i.e. the .WAV portion of a file named MyCheer.WAV - otherwise the system will not know how to play the file.

In any given session, WinFlash can work with up to 50 cheer files and 50 jeer files.  It identifies these files by taking the first 50 files it finds in the searched directory (see above) with a name of the form CJC*.* for cheers and the first 50 with the form CJJ*.* for jeers.  Any naming system using CJC and CJJ as the starting three letters will work.

You could use something like

CJCYaaaay.wav

CJCTerrific.wav

.

.

CJJBooo.wav

CJJTskTsk.wav

.

.

or something like

CJC1.wav

CJC2.wav

CJC3.wav

.

.

CJJ1.wav

CJJ2.wav

CJJ3.wav

.

.

whatever works well for you.
