Installation

WinFlash Installation

 

Note: Installing WinFlash requires that you are logged in with an account that has Administrator-level privileges.

To install WinFlash Basic, Scholar or Educator v12 from a self-extracting .EXE file downloaded from Open Window or other download source:

1.  Use My Computer and select the directory that contains the downloaded file.

2.  Double click on the downloaded file to run it (Basic - FLASH32.EXE; Scholar - FLASHSC.EXE; Educator - FLASE.EXE). This will take you through the procedure of installing WinFlash v12 on your hard disk.

The following files will be installed in the directory you choose - we recommend that you accept the default installer choice of C:\Program Files\WFEducator_120 (or WFBasic_120 for Basic or WFScholar_120 for Scholar):

 Basic

 winfl3120.exe - The WinFlash Basic executable program file

 winfl3120.exe.local - Forces WinFlash to use local versions of DLLs        

 

 Scholar

 winfls120.exe - The WinFlash Scholar executable program file

 winfls120.exe.local - Forces WinFlash to use local versions of DLLs

 

 Educator

 winfle120.exe - The WinFlash Educator executable program file

 winfle120.por - Used in creating portable versions of Educator

 winfle120.exe.local - Forces WinFlash to use local versions of DLLs        

 lame.exe - Utility program used in the export of .mp3 files

 

 The Subdirectory Pausefiles containing:

 

         pause1.pse - Support file for export of audio-format study files

         pause2.pse - Support file for export of audio-format study files

         pause4.pse - Support file for export of audio-format study files

         pause8.pse - Support file for export of audio-format study files

         pause16.pse - Support file for export of audio-format study files

 

 In All Installations

 

           sky32v3c.dll - Graphics dynamic link library

 unins000.dat - Uninstall data for removing this installation

 unins000.exe - Uninstaller program for removing this installation

 wfr.ico - Icon for WinFlash result files

 wfs.ico - Icon for WinFlash old-style .fls source files

 wft.ico - Icon for WinFlash compiled test files        

 wfu.ico - Icon for WinFlash source files

 wfz.ico - Icon for WinFlash compiled study files

 

The remaining WinFlash files will be installed in different locations depending upon whether you are running Windows XP, Vista or 7. The path for each operating system is stated below:

For Windows XP the following files will be installed in the directory C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Application Data\Open Window Software\WFEducator_120 (or WFBasic_120 for Basic or WFScholar_120 for Scholar):

For Windows Vista or 7 the following files will be installed in the directory C:\Program Data\Open Window Software\WFEducator_120 (or WFBasic_120 for Basic or WFScholar_120 for Scholar):

 register.txt - Order form in Windows text format          

 winflash.ini - Program preferences file

 

For Windows XP the following files will be installed in the directory C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Shared WinFlash Files:

For Windows Vista or 7 the following files will be installed in the  directory C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Shared WinFlash Files:

         capitals.flt - Demo test file based on state capitals

         capitals.flz - Demo study file based on state capitals

         multiply.flz - Demo study file of the multiplication tables

         quick tour.flz - Demo file introducing WinFlash

         spanish.flz - Demo study file based Spanish foreign language study

         unicode.flz - Demo study file showing Unicode and font effects examples

 

 The Subdirectory Help Files containing:

 

         winfls120.chm - Windows HTML-help file

         winfls120.pdf - Printable .pdf of formatted help file contents

         pad_file.htm - Industry-standard file containing program distribution information
